Serum Sperm Bank was established in 1991 to provide Serum IVF Clinic patients with a wide variety of top-quality donor options. It is the first and largest sperm bank in Greece and has helped thousands of couples in more than 20 countries all over the world to fulfil their dream of creating a family.

Donors Screening

Serum Sperm Bank follows a very strict donor screening process using state-of-the-art technological equipment. Donor screening consists of tests on all sexually transmitted diseases, genetic analysis, karyotyping and cystic fibrosis testing. We take pride in the fact that we are the only sperm bank that includes a DNA fragmentation test on all specimens before and after cryopreservation so we can detect any possible alteration on the DNA to ensure the highest possible pregnancy rate for all our patients. Furthermore, thanks to our excellent and pioneering cryo-preservation system, we have managed to significantly increase the post-thawing specimen vitality levels.

DNA Library

Serum Sperm Bank offers another pioneering service to future parents. By collecting and preserving donors’ DNA samples, you can have access to and request any necessary DNA tests without the donor’s physical presence being a prerequisite.

Donors Selection

All donors of our Sperm Bank are carefully selected. Apart from the necessary medical screening, we ensure that all our specimens come from young donors (most of them in their early 20s), from all races and with a rich variety of physical features. Additionally, the majority of our donors have an exceptional educational background. In Serum Sperm Bank, we further guarantee the high quality of our specimens by keeping extremely analytical records of our donors’ family medical history as well as extensive reviews of our donors’ psychological profiles.

Serum Staff

Our staff consists of highly qualified and specialised scientists, who offer a comprehensive consultation at all stages of the procedure to couples and single women. Under our guidance, future parents choose the specimen that best matches their preferences.  We guarantee absolute discretion and confidentiality throughout the whole selection process.

Legislation

Serum Sperm Bank abides by the national and EU legislation on sperm banks and ensures the application of WHO standards on sperm donation. The Greek legislation has recently changed and gives the donor the opportunity to select if he wants to be anonymous, open ID or give the right to the child to let him/ her know after completing 18th years old. In either option, the donor doesn’t get any information about the recipient or the child. If the donor chooses to be anonymous, however, we are entitled to disclose non-identifiable information necessary for the final selection of the donor, regarding characteristics such as skin, eye and hair colour, education, height, weight, hobbies, and any other features that may be important for the patient.
